My Projects

Here is a selection of my favourite projects from over the years. So, why not take a break, spend some time looking around, and hopefully you will find something you enjoy.

Once

Using my archive of old, snapshot photographs and utilising an online repository of free-use images, Once explores the aspects of loss that connect us all.

Combined with haiku verse, a meditative form of poetry, Once is a response to different strands of loss, asking the viewer to pause, reflect on this familiar subject and consider how it has impacted on their own life, and may affect them in the future.

In Contrast

A personal exploration of a link between the sea, my mental health and abstract imagery.

Only I am I

Utilising old photographs obtained from various sources, and merging them with text taken from suicide notes, I try to find positives from the words written by those who were too desperate to go on, acknowledging you cannot always succeed in the endeavour.

Antagonistic Confidante

This body of work looks at my last major depressive episode, exploring my emotions and feelings I endured as my brain fought against me. My old comrade. My antagonistic confidante.

The original work was presented as a photo album. The images were shot in medium format colour film and printed by my own hand.
Each image was placed under vellum, complete with accompanying text.

These images are digital scans from the original album.

Spanish Flu Now

Part of the 14-18 Now project, marking the anniversary of World War 1.

I wrote the story of Nathan, a cycle courier living in Sunderland as a pandemic hit, similar to Spanish Flu. I created all the images that went alongside the story which was played out on Instagram.

This was only fourteen months before Covid-19 appeared in Wuhan, China which makes it even more eerie when looking back.

Six Of The Best

This work was inspired by a short poem by John Hegley titled "My Dad's new belt". The poem explores the subject of corporal punishment inflicted upon children.

This work featured as part of an exhibition curated by the National Portrait Gallery.
