This project is currently a work in progress.
I am interested in the use of text with imagery to create pieces, particularly to create work which offers a different dimension for the viewer.
I have always been fascinated by the Japanese poetry Haiku. The ability to create such depth in a minimal number of words fascinates me. It is also very similar to a photograph - creating a depth of feeling, understanding or emotion via a frozen moment in time.
I feel using archive photographs as a starting point brings a new life and depth to the images. From the pictorial information on display, a number of possible stories emerge.
Writing Haiku is a new adventure for me. I feel it is a great art form to marry with photography, especially the use of archival imagery. From an old image and a longstanding, popular form of poetry, a new moment in time is created.
